Community Programs

Citizens Police Academy

The Citizens Police Academy is a multi-week program that gives residents an inside look at police operations, procedures, and training. Participants learn about patrol tactics, criminal investigations, use of force policies, and emergency response. The academy is offered annually and is free to Waverly residents age 18 and older.

National Night Out

Waverly participates in National Night Out each August, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Officers visit neighborhoods across the city, and residents host block parties, cookouts, and gatherings. The event is coordinated by the Police Department in partnership with local organizations.

School Resource Officers

The Waverly Police Department assigns School Resource Officers (SROs) to Waverly–Shell Rock schools. SROs build positive relationships with students and staff, provide safety education, assist with conflict resolution, and serve as a law enforcement resource within the school environment. The SRO program is a partnership between the department and the school district.
