About & Boards
The Community Development Department guides Waverly's growth through zoning administration, building inspections, code enforcement, and long-range planning. Staff works closely with property owners, developers, and contractors to ensure projects comply with city codes while supporting the community's vision for the future.
Code Enforcement
All new construction, remodeling, and demolition within Waverly city limits requires appropriate permits. The city has adopted the International Building Code, International Residential Code, and National Electrical Code. Inspections are required at key stages of construction to ensure compliance with adopted codes.
Permits & Fees
Building permits are required for new construction, additions, alterations, and demolition. Permit applications are reviewed by Community Development staff and typically processed within five to ten business days. Plans and specifications must accompany the application for new structures and significant alterations.
Planning & Maps
Waverly's Comprehensive Plan provides the long-range vision for land use, transportation, housing, economic development, and community facilities. The plan is updated periodically and guides the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council in making land use decisions.
