About Community Development
The Community Development Department guides Waverly's growth through zoning administration, building inspections, code enforcement, and long-range planning. Staff works closely with property owners, developers, and contractors to ensure projects comply with city codes while supporting the community's vision for the future.
Planning & Zoning Commission
The Planning & Zoning Commission reviews development proposals, rezoning requests, subdivision plats, and site plans. The Commission meets monthly and makes recommendations to the City Council on land use matters. Members are appointed by the Mayor and serve five-year terms.
Board of Adjustment
The Board of Adjustment hears appeals of zoning decisions and requests for variances and special exceptions. The Board meets as needed when applications are received. Meetings are publicly noticed and open to the public.
Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission works to identify and protect Waverly's historic resources. The Commission reviews exterior alterations to properties within the local historic district and promotes public awareness of Waverly's architectural heritage.
