Stormwater management

Stormwater program

The Stormwater Management division manages the city's storm sewer system, detention basins, and waterway maintenance to protect water quality and reduce flooding. The program operates under a Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) permit.

Flooding concerns

Report flooding, drainage issues, or stormwater concerns to Public Works at (608) 755-3110. The city monitors known flood-prone areas and maintains a stormwater management plan to reduce flood risk.

Green infrastructure

The City encourages green infrastructure practices including rain gardens, permeable pavement, and rain barrels to reduce stormwater runoff. The Stormwater Management Plan includes guidance for property owners and developers.

Development requirements

New development and redevelopment projects must comply with the City's stormwater management ordinance, including requirements for detention, water quality treatment, and erosion control.
